THE ART OF MEL CASIPIT

Yesterday Me and my friends attended the Summer Komikon 2010 at UP Bahay ng Alumni QC Philippines. We arrived there sometime after 10am. We fell in line before entering paid P50 then finally set-up the Indie Table assigned to me, well that was the only vacant table so we took it. I sold my latest comics creation Baboy 2 as well as my old comics that includes Baboy, MLU, EDSA, and DogStyle. Present also in my table is 8 Oras of my housemate Roelito and Pinoy Komiks Rebyu by Randy Valiente the same person who wrote EDSA. There were many peolple and komiks and toys and everything, I was not able to roam around that much though because I'm stuck at my table selling my comics. At first nobody seems to find me because my table is on the far corner with a huge post blocking the view. Then a litter later people started walking by, browsing and buying my comics which made me very happy. At the end of the day only a few copies of my comics are left, Baboy2, MLU and Dogstyle were sold out!...

I have plenty of Mlu drawings in my archive. I began drawing Mlu way back when I was still with e-telecare my 1st call center. There I met Lulu Castillo my Girlfriend. From the day I first drew Mlu until now, more or less I have created at least 200 small drawings about a quarter of a coupon bond and a full 9-pages mini-comic. That said comics won as the Best Entry in the Komikon 2009 last November. I was very happy when that comics won, I felt like all my efforts have been paid off. Up until now I still continue drawing Mlu when I have time. These are a few of my colored Mlu Drawings, colored about an hour each using Adobe Photoshop. Feel free to comment If you like them :).

I just got home from a trip to UP Diliman QC. That is the only place I know which can give me a quality copy of my mini-comics. After logging-out at the office by 1pm I headed straight to the UP campus, I don't mind the heat of the sun, I don't mind my headache, I don't mind my lack of sleep, just to get my comics copied, and no I am not angry. Anyway, The name of the stall is YZA, it is located in the shopping center inside the UP Campus. I had my Baboy and Mlu Comics photocopied 20 copies each. If you want to grab a copy, you can contact me or you can drop by our table at the KomiksTrip : the First UPLB comics convention. I will be at the table of Wow Hayop with my good friend and a great artist Randy Valiente . Mr Valiente is the writer of EDSA a mini-comics about... you got it right EDSA! I'm also going to bring copies of that comic to the con as well as the Dogstyle another Best Entry for the Komikon an Annual Comics Convention in the Philippines. Other than my...

Well its been a while since I last updated my blog, been busy these past few days or maybe I'm just lazy. The drawing above is my fan art for Twilight saga: New Moon. My girlfriend really likes this series so much so I guest I have to love it too. :) Just got from a mass earlier, today, Nov 1 is the "All Saints Day" and tomorrow is the "All Souls Day" I was not able to go back to Pangasinan though. I'm looking forward for to see the new Astro Boy movie! :) I'm also a fan of that boy. I was supposed to be seeing it with Lulu but I screwed it up. Well, I hope we can see the movie before its not showing in theaters anymore. Happy Halloween! :)

The Winning Comics: MLU MLU is my newest comics entry for the 5th Komikon Comics Creation Contest. I was able to get the Best Entry award for the 3rd Consecutive time. Baboy won last Komikon Nov 2008 and second time is for Dogstyle last May 2009 at the Komikon Summer Fiesta. I am very happy that many have appreciated my comics, I'm doing this Blog to share why I did and how I did MLU : 1. First I will write the story, usually, for my comics since it's only a few pages I just think what the story is about. 2. Then I do the thumbnails, in this stage I decide how the panels are layed out on each page and how many pages will my comics be. 3. Next is pencilling, I just follow what I draw on the thumbnails stage so thumbnails are critical you need to put all the important details on it so when its pencillixng time you will not waste time thinking what to draw. 4. And lastly the inking stage, this stage usally takes time, specially if you want to put as much detail on comics as you ...

Magbebenta rina...
